ABOUT CIVIC INITIATIVES

Created by Public Procurement Professionals for Public Procurement Professionals

Who We Are

Civic Initiatives is a nationally recognized leader in public-sector procurement review, operations, and transformation support. We help procurement officers across the nation strengthen procurement offices, modernize practices, and make public procurement a strategic asset.

Incorporated in 2010, Civic Initiatives has supported more than 500 public procurement transformation projects in more than 45 states, serving state and local governments, K-12 schools, institutions of higher education, special districts, and nonprofit organizations.

Civic Initiatives was created by public procurement professionals for public procurement professionals. We sat in the seats of the people we serve, and most of our team came to Civic from public-sector roles. Many of our consultants hold recognized procurement certifications, including CPPO, CPPB, and NIGP-CPP, and those who are not certified are encouraged to pursue certification. We bring practical, practitioner-informed support to procurement offices where capacity, expertise, or strategic guidance is needed most.

In 2026, Civic Initiatives became part of Public Knowledge® (PK), a national consulting firm with more than 35 years of experience helping government agencies solve complex operational, policy, technology, and program challenges. Together, Civic Initiatives and PK bring expanded capacity, broader public-sector consulting depth, and continued specialization in procurement modernization, acquisition support, procurement automation, and organizational transformation.

The advantage of working with Civic Initiatives remains the same: we understand public procurement because we have lived it. Our team combines hands-on procurement experience with structured consulting methods, a national perspective, and PK's added resources to help public agencies move from current-state challenges to practical, sustainable improvements.

"Civic was created around the idea that we could take people who had done this job before and teach them how to be consultants, as opposed to teaching consultants about procurement." Dustin Lanier, Founder
